DIDAC COSTA AND THE 2020 VENDÉE GLOBE

Sep 1, 2020

Didac Costa is an experienced sailor who has drawn on his modesty, willpower and dedication to notch up amazing successes in the sailing world, and particularly in the world’s most challenging race, the Vendée Globe.

In the 2016 edition, Didac Costa became the second Spaniard to finish the Vendée Globe, despite all the financial and technical problems that he had to tackle.

This year, it’s being very tough from a financial point to view to find enough sponsors to give the minimal support required for the project. That’s why Grupo Barco, even though we’re fully aware of current hardships, has decided to support this project as a technical partner and spearhead the search for other Mallorcan entrepreneurs to back this project with their technical skills and services.

With this support from Grupo Barco, Didac Costa has used the facilities of the yard in the port of Palma to carry out a series of works aimed at boosting the strength and safety of his boat, the well-known IMOCA Kingfisher.

Grupo Barco was in charge of fine-tuning all the boat’s hydraulic systems. The keel and bulb were removed, while the rudder bearings and keel pistons were replaced. The rudder shaft was replaced with a titanium one, which is lighter and more resistant to corrosion.

All of us at Grupo Barco passionately believe in Didac Costa and his values. We feel identified with them because they also reflect our companies and our way of understanding life. That’s why we want to build on his successes by contributing all our experience as a technical partner.

Come on, Didac!
